Merry Widow Corselette
This version of the Merry Widow is quintessential mid-50s shape-wear. Unlike a standard corselette, which focuses on the hips and derriere, a Merry Widow works its magic on the upper torso; tightening, smoothing and uplifting. It's essentially a low-backed strapless bra combined with a strict waist cincher; and the result is the perfect foundation for wearing under the tight-bodiced, full-skirted gowns that were extremely fashionable in the 1950s and early 60s, as well as modern variations on this theme.
